Create a High Quality Sports Advertisement
This easy tutorial will show you how to take a few stock images and turn them into a high quality sports advertisement.

![]()
Here are the pictures I will use.
![]()
![]()

![]()
Next open up the basketball picture in photoshop.
![]()
Duplicate the layer and hide the previous one so you have a backup in case you mess up.
![]()

![]()
Hide the previous layer and on your new layer remove the clouds and sky any means you know how… I will use the pen tool.
![]()
It doesn’t have to be perfect here is what I have
![]()

![]()
Duplicate that layer and add noise by going to filter>>noise>>add noise with these settings:
![]()

![]()
Then go to filter>>render>>difference clouds
![]()
Add overlay to that layer to get a nice effect.
![]()

![]()
Choose these colors as your foreground and background
![]()

![]()
Create a new layer above that and fill with the orange color
![]()
Then go to filter>>sketch>>halftone pattern
![]()

![]()
Use these settings:
![]()

![]()
Flip that layer horizontally then duplicate it so it fits across the entire canvas
![]()

![]()
Now go to filter>>distort>>polar coordinates
![]()

![]()
Drag that layer below your others and cut the bottom half off and drag it above your
other layers.
![]()

![]()
Unhide the layer of our original image and drag it above all the other layers. Add a difference cloud to it and noise then set it to overlay. Set its opacity at about 80%.
![]()
Set the bottom half of your halftone pattern to darken and its opacity to about 30%.
![]()

![]()
Cut out your soccer player, I used the pen tool yet again and place him on your canvas and size him down.
![]()

![]()
Duplicate your soccer player layer. Change your foreground and background colors
back to the original black and white. Hold down ctrl+click on the little icon
beside your new layer and it should make a selection around him. Then add clouds
and noise.
![]()

![]()
Set that layer to color burn and you should have something like this
![]()

![]()
Now I will add some grunge effect just by using default photoshop brushes. Grab this brush:
![]()

![]()
Choose black as your color and make some random streaks on your canvas
![]()

![]()
Now grab a darker red color and make some more streaks around the same places you put the black ones.
![]()
Now add some text to the bottom left for a web address.. I made up soccernet.com and made it glow white.
![]()

![]()
Now I am going to add some text on the left of the soccer player that says, “the battle, who will win?”… or something to that effect. Make up whatever you want.
![]()

![]()
The text I used was Berlin Sans FB.
![]()
Make a layer behind the text and use the same brush we did before to make some streaks that look kind of like underlines.
![]()

![]()
Then choose some colors of your liking for both text parts. I chose some colors that matched what I have and then I used a brush to erase parts of the text to make them look grungy.
![]()
Here is my final advertisement:

Add Reflective Fantasy Water to an Image
In this tutorial I will show you an easy way to add some reflective fantasy water to an image and for a final touch I will add some fish jumping out of the water.
So first save this image
Next size the image down to where its about 560px wide and create a new canvas that has that same width and a height of double what it is. My canvas size is 565X848px.
Next duplicate your image

Move your newly duplicated image to the bottom of the canvas and rotate it 180 degrees.

Then flip it horizontally

Create a new layer below that one

Hold down control on your keyboard and click on the little icon beside your duplicated layer so it creates a selection around it.

Fill the new layer with light to mid blue color

Click on your screen to get rid of the selection and choose your copied layer. Then grab your gradient tool from your tools palette. Make sure its linear and pick black to transparent

Add a layer mask to that layer by either clicking the little picture icon at the bottom of your layers palette or go to layer>>layer mask>>reveal all

Take your gradient tool and drag from the bottom up to reveal the bluish background we made.

Next we will make the water so create another new layer above the one we just used the gradient tool on

Use the control and clicking technique on the blue background to highlight around
the area.

Now in the new layer add clouds by going to filter>>render>>clouds

Now go to filter>>artistic>>plastic wrap

Use these settings

Now go to filter>>sketch>>chrome

Use these settings:

After that set the layer to overlay

Next select all the 3 layers of our water

Use control+t to transform the layers then right click on the canvas and click perspective

Grab the bottom right of that and drag to your right so change its perspective until you get your desired result.
Now to add a couple fish in the water. Grab this picture of a fish I got from
http://www.sxc.hu/index.phtml

Cut your fish out and place your fish in the water and size it down how you want

Create a new layer, grab your brush tool and set it to scatter. Use some white and blue colors to make the fish look like its coming out of the water.

Add some more fish and you should be done
Create a Shocking Image in Photoshop
I will run you through some easy ways to make someone look like they are getting shocked by sticking their fingers in electrical outlets.
![]()
I don’t really know how I came up with this tutorial other than just seeing this picture and deciding to make her look like she is getting shocked.
![]()

![]()
**Quick Note - click on these images for larger versions.
![]()
![]()
So grab that picture and open it in photoshop. Cut her out by any means you know
how, I am skipping this step. I used the pen tool to cut her out.
![]()
Next start a document of 500X800px to give ourselves plenty of room to work in.
You can do smaller version of this if it will fit on your resolution better.
![]()
Now drag your cutout of her into your document.
![]()
Next grab this image of an electrical outlet:
![]()
![]()
Now position them in your document so it looks like her fingers are in the sockets.
![]()
![]()
I added a slight glow around the edges for a bit of shadow and I used perspective on the bottom left outlet. You can just leave them as is if you want though. I know the top outlet is kind of big if you are going for realism but the whole point is to make her look shocked anyway.
![]()
So on to the electricity stage. You may have seen some tutorials on lightning in photoshop, its actually really easy to create. If you haven’t seen a tutorial on lightning i’ll show you the main two ways I know of to create it.
![]()
First the lightning coming out of the sockets where her fingers are.
![]()
Get your rectangle marquee tool out
![]()

![]()
Use it to select the top half of our canvas, not quite half, but right below her elbow.
<![]()

![]()
Start a new layer
![]()

![]()
Now grab your gradient tool
![]()

![]()
Choose a linear gradient from black to white and pull your gradient from left to right in the selection. You should get this
![]()

![]()
Now go to filter>>render>>difference clouds
![]()

![]()
Now You should have this
![]()

![]()
Now hit control+I on your keyboard to invert the image, you should get this
![]()

![]()
Next hit control+L on your keyboard to bring up your levels
![]()

![]()
Drag your middle arrow and left arrow to the right until you get your desired result, here is mine
![]()

![]()
Set that layers blending mode and then position it so it looks like its coming out of the socket.
![]()

![]()
Now do the same thing for the other socket
![]()

![]()
OK now we will make some lightning to cover her with
![]()
Start a new layer, fill it with the color black then go to filter>>render>>clouds. Then go to filter>>render>>difference clouds. Invert it again and use your levels. Set it to screen yet again.
![]()

![]()
Now you won’t have this excess lightning if you had a white background but I made the background a light gray to fit this site I am doing the tutorial for.
![]()
So if you have excess lightning take a soft eraser brush and erase the parts you don’t want.
![]()
Now I am going to do the lightning again to add more. You can do this as many times as you want to get your desired result.
![]()

![]()
Next lets make her even more surprised she got shocked… Click on the layer with
the girl in it and then go to filter>>liquefy. If you don’t have this tool then
you will have to skip this step sorry!
![]()
Zoom in on the image and choose the bloat tool
![]()

![]()
Set the brush size to around 22 and click once in each of her eyes a couple times to make them look extra big
![]()

![]()
Then grab your very first tool in your liquefy mode called the forward warp tool.
![]()
Get a 40px brush and pull her chin down a bit to make it look more crazy.
![]()

![]()
Now zoom in on her face and head area.
![]()
Grab your smudge tool
![]()

![]()
Choose the 27px soft brush and set the strength to 55%. Drag upwards around the hair to make it look like it is standing up.
![]()

![]()
Next grab your burn tool.
![]()

![]()
In range choose shadows and leave exposure at 100 percent. Go around and make burn marks where the lightning hits her clothes and also some on her skin.
![]()

![]()
Ok that is about all the final touches on her, now on to the electric outlets. Use the burn tool on them as well.
![]()
Now I am going to add some smoke coming out of the outlets, out of her ears, and just around her in general. To do this I will use a regular brush set to scatter and make black dots around certain areas. Start a new layer.
![]()
I will demonstrate with her ears.
![]()

![]()
Now take your smudge tool like we did with the hair and smudge the dots to look like smoke. You can keep the same smudge tool settings as before.
![]()

![]()
Now I will ad smoke to the rest of the document
![]()

![]()
I am almost done with this, for some final touches I am going to duplicate the image of the girl a few times, moving them into different position and setting to low opacities to make her look really shocked.
![]()
For another touch i’ll add a little fire to the outlets.
![]()
Add Aurora Borealis and Stars to an Image
In this tutorial I will show you really easy techniques to create aurora borealis (cool lighting effects) in a night sky or for a space project you may want to do. I will also show you an easy way to add stars to an image.
